PRODUCT: QUERLENKERLAGER – suspension assembly component

Structural suspension assembly developed for heavy-duty automotive applications. The component requires high precision in casting, machining and assembly, with strict control of mounting forces to ensure correct functional performance.

Material: Ductile Cast Iron, Stainless Steel
Raw part obtained per: Cast iron DISAMATIC moulding; central stainless-steel bushing machined from AISI 304 bar stock
Finished part obtained via: Machining + Coating + Semi-automatic assembly with force-controlled mounting of lateral components (<30 kN), mounting force of central bushings (>1 kN), and minimum bushing step-out force (>8 kN)
Challenge: guarantee correct fixing and functional forces → co-design with customer
OEM: Mercedes-Benz (via Tier1)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Querlenkerlager is a critical element of the suspension system. Throughout the project TECNOFOR managed:

  • optimization of cast iron DISAMATIC moulding for repeatability and material integrity
  • development of CNC machining on tight-tolerance geometries
  • production of the central stainless-steel bushing via turning from AISI 304 bar
  • application of coating according to OEM specifications
  • design and execution of semi-automatic assembly
  • controllo della forza di montaggio dei componenti laterali (<30 kN)
  • force-controlled mounting of lateral components (>30 kN)
  • verification of central bushing mounting force (>1 kN)
  • co-design activities with the customer to ensure manufacturability and performance

This component is the central element of the rear Watt’s linkage suspension of the Mercedes G-Class 580 EQ, the fully electric version of the iconic G-Wagen.
